From June 15–19, 2026, the international turbomachinery community will come together at the Turbomachinery Technical Conference & Exposition in Milan. The event is aimed at developers, OEMs, suppliers, research institutions and quality assurance teams. Key topics include turbomachinery, power generation, sensor technology, validation and modern test methods.
For these topics, MAUL-THEET offers ready-to-use solutions. When developing and assessing highly stressed components, reliable test methods, high-precision measurement technology and traceable measurement results are essential. In particular, analyzing vibration behavior provides valuable insights into component properties, load capacity and quality, thereby supporting development, validation and quality assurance processes.
At our partner Ertemes GmbH’s Booth D33, we will showcase the Automatic Modal Hammer | vImpact-64 live. The demonstration shows how automated excitation and flexible sensor concepts contribute to reproducible measurements and higher data quality. Compared with manual hammer excitation, the vImpact provides controlled, reproducible excitation without double hits. This makes measurement results significantly more comparable in series testing. At the same time, automated excitation creates a stable, well-documented basis for evaluation, making results more transparent and traceable.
In addition, we will present the Turbine and Compressor Blade Test Stand | TBT. The system was specifically developed for non-destructive testing (NDT) of vibration-critical turbomachinery components and enables reproducible evaluation of turbine, compressor, fan, impeller and diffuser blades, as well as blisks/IBRs. The test method is based on analyzing the component’s individual vibration behavior. The TBT features specially developed, component-specific clamping technology that accommodates a wide range of component geometries and thus provides the basis for highly precise comparative measurements. Excitation is applied via a vImpact, triggered through the software, while clamping is provided by PLC-controlled hydraulics. This allows test sequences to be automated, standardized and carried out independently of operator influence. An optional barcode scanner is also available for identifying the component under test and verifying the correct assignment between the component and the clamping setup.
A key feature of the system is its wide frequency range combined with very high frequency resolution. This allows even the smallest deviations in vibration behavior to be captured and assessed reliably. The high measurement precision also enables master-blade measurements, which serve as the basis for reference-based quality evaluation.
The measurement data obtained is stored and managed in an SQL-based blade database. This allows measurement results to be documented long-term, traced, and compared with reference data. The TBT therefore supports both quality assurance in series production and the assessment of new, repaired and used parts. Test processes can be standardized, documented in a traceable manner and safeguarded over the long term—an important advantage for manufacturers, MRO providers and operators of safety-critical turbomachinery components.
This topic is of particular relevance at Turbo Expo2026, as blade components are among the most safety- and performance-critical parts of modern turbomachinery. Even minor changes in geometry, material properties or residual stress states can affect vibration behavior—and thus impact efficiency, service life and operational safety. As a result, standardized, transparent and reproducible test methods with traceable results are becoming increasingly important for OEMs, suppliers, MRO companies, and research and development organizations.
