ILA Berlin 2026: MAUL-THEET presents the TBT for non-destructive blade testing

From June 10–14, 2026, the international aerospace community will come together at ILA Berlin. The trade show will spotlight current developments in aero-engine technology as well as the safety and reliability of aerospace systems. This further increases the importance of quality assurance for highly loaded components in engines and other turbomachinery—for manufacturers, suppliers, MRO providers and development teams alike. Precise, reproducible and traceable test methods are a key prerequisite for reliably assessing components across the entire product life cycle.

Especially for turbine, compressor, fan, impeller and diffuser blades, the requirements are particularly demanding. Even minor deviations in geometry, material properties, stress state or repair quality can influence vibration behavior. Resonance frequencies, damping characteristics and a reliable pass/fail assessment are therefore critical—both during development and in production-line quality assurance, as well as after refurbishment and overhaul.

To address these exact requirements, MAUL-THEET will showcase at ILA Berlin 2026 at Booth400 how the Turbine and compressor blade test stand | TBT enables quality inspection processes for aerospace and turbomachinery components to be designed efficiently, reproducibly and with high technical validity—using high-precision testing and measurement technology.

The TBT enables non-destructive testing (NDT) of all common blade types, up to and including blisks/IBRs, and supports manufacturers in particular with quality control in manufacturing, repair and overhaul. The specially developed, blade-specific clamping technology combined with PLC-controlled hydraulics minimizes the influence of the clamping on vibration behavior, providing the basis for reproducible measurement results. On this basis, natural frequencies can be determined with high precision in frequency ranges up to 100kHz, with a frequency resolution of <1Hz at 20kHz, allowing deviations in vibration behavior to be detected and assessed reliably. This measurement precision meets the requirements for master-blade measurements, which serve as the basis for reference-based quality evaluation. Powerful MAUL-THEET software handles automated acquisition, evaluation and documentation of the measurement data. A project-oriented database structure with an integrated SQL-based blade database enables cross-site use across multiple workstations. This makes it possible to detect changes in blades at an early stage, identify outliers, assess quality deviations in a traceable manner, and document test processes reliably.

The combination of high-precision measurement technology, reproducible clamping and intelligent data analysis enables reliable quality assessment and complete traceability of test results across different manufacturing and process steps. This makes the TBT a solution for companies that need to monitor testing and production processes reliably as requirements for safety, traceability and process stability continue to rise. Even gradual changes in manufacturing or overhaul processes can be detected and documented in an auditable manner.
